The Canadian synth pop artist tells a story in fragmented parts on his new record.
We covered Digits a lot earlier this year around the time of his self-released (and fantastic) mixtape ‘Death & Desire’. His newest project, ‘In The City Of The Dead’, has a novel concept at the heart of it – each song forms part of a bigger story, with each new instalment being released to different blogs and music sites.
Get Angry is the first chapter of the story, which you can read and stream below, but naturally we’d recommend that you read (and hear) the prologue over at 20jazzfunkgreats.
Chapter One: Get Angry
…Before things got really bad…
J wakes up in bed to the sounds of the daily broadcast. The disturbing trend of pro-violence propaganda has reached new heights, government spokespeople are now openly encouraging hatred of others:
YOU SHOULD BE ANGRY
THIS IS NOT YOUR FAULT
YOU ARE NOT TO BLAME
IT’S EVERYBODY ELSE
Next broadcast: STREET VIOLENCE is on the rise
J sits down to write: “The government needs people to remain in their homes/Enraged gangs in the streets serve their purposes well.” But J knows publishing the article would accomplish nothing. And he is afraid of becoming a target. And he has a comfortable life.
Maybe it will all just go away.
