Chopped pop tipped for the top.
Ecstatic Sunshine’s Matthew Papich, is from Baltimore and, as Co La, makes tapestries out of pop music. Songs are chopped up staccato, and pictures are formed from glints of melody and instrumentation. It’s very bright yet not 100% happy music between jazz, 60s Cali psyche and early hip hop and I think Basquiat probably would have been a fan.
Surprise surprise, we definitely are – we recorded him in New York, reviewed his show, asked him to make us a Dummy Mix, interviewed the guy and featured his wonderful remix of Avey Tare – and jumped at the chance to premiere this remix of Cloud Nothings’s track Cut You. It’s the closing track of the Cleveland solo artist’s actually pretty terrific (though totally not my usual cup of tea) album ‘Attack On Memory’. Click play, and enjoy.
