Blood Orange - Sutphin Boulevard [MP3]

Blood Orange is the 80s-beckoning smooth R&B project from New York based writer and musician Devonté Hynes of Test Icicles and Lightspeed Champion’s fame. Following on the Terrible released 7”, ‘Dinner’, that came out in April, he is due to release a new album, ‘Coastal Grooves’, on Domino in August.

Hynes’ previous Blood Orange materials paid tribute to 808-era dance music and Prince, apparently Chris Isaak, Billy Idol, 80s Japanese pop such as Yellow Magic Orchestra and French singer F.R David were heavily influential in the making of ‘Coastal Grooves’. Sutphin Boulevard is a dreamy, sultry and vibed out track that visualises the seedy yet inspirational New York night time and gives you a preview of Hynes’ new album, in which covers a diverse collection of genres, though mainly focusing on 80s revvial, R&B, and pop.

Domino will release Blood Orange’s ‘Sutphin Boulevard’ on the 1st August and ‘Coastal Grooves’ on the 8th August, 2011
