Blood Diamonds ft. Grimes - Phone Sex

Canadian producer teams up with the pop star emergent for this lustrous tune.

Blood Diamonds real name is actually Diamond, Michael Diamond in fact; he’s from Canada but now lives in LA. His style of music-making quietly confronts you with its twinkling pretty face, naively rubbing itself up against you and altogether embracing the politely sexy side of the electronic music spectrum – if you’re unfamiliar you can get an idea through past songs of his, Dreams and Grins. The creative meeting of Blood Diamonds and fellow Canadian, Grimes is not an unlikely choice, as the young lady’s singing resides itself in dreamland just as much as the producer’s beats do, and new tune Phone Sex proves they were destined to make something together. She sings “Hey daddy, hey daddy it’s too soon, hey daddy, hey daddy, I’m living on the moon”, whilst he strings together steel-pan-esque noises and an soft electro beat that sounds like a weird pop-ed up version of Jamie XX’s Far Nearer.

Our fondness for Blood Diamonds lead him to do a very nice mix for us last year, featuring a solo Grimes tune – you can listen to it and download it here. Also, listen to the new tune Phone Sex below, coming out via 4AD on 16th July in the UK, Blood Diamonds’ first release on the reliably good label.
