Daft Punk are now superstars, but in 1994 they were a rave band looking for a deal, and passed this track, Drive on to a relatively new Scottish dance label, Soma. The DAT tape – full of grinding Roland drums, snappy melodies, elastic vocals, both archetypically club music but deeply different in its command of looping – was lost after Soma put out Da Funk, until now. Soma are celebrating 20 years in the business with a compilation, on which this unearthed track features. Listen, and feel the promise.
