Dummy Picks 002 // February 2013 // California Dreamin'

Following on from the first in our Dummy Picks staff mix series, we’re back with our 11 recommended tracks of the month. We kick things off with some of MBV’s brand new material – their first offering since 1991’s classic ‘Loveless’ – leading into a somewhat rap-heavy territory, dominated by Drake, Kitty, Sasha Go Hard and Young Scooter. Ben Aqua’s wonky, bassy and sub-heavy electronica resets the tone, though, before we finish off with Nick Cave’s sweet melodies, taken from his latest fifteenth studio album.

All in all it seems we’re in a pretty escapist, romantic mood this month – whether it’s wearing every chain (even when we’re in the house), exploring new music from different continents with the incredible sounds of Pakistan-based producer Dynoman, thinking of young love with Matmos’s skewed ode to teen romance, or riding the mournful waves of Vondelpark’s blissfully acoustic new version of California Analog Dream, we’ve been indulging our fantasies with our playlist this month. Stream the mix below, and come away with us.
