Dummy Mix 57 // Body Hammer

Body Hammer is a bi-monthly party in changing venues around London with a focus on house and techno from the past and present. The venues are full of character and charm and are given out via their mailing list often a day or two before the event. There are no advance tickets and the vibe is intimate and friendly. When they’re not running events in London, the three main residents for Body Hammer (Joe Hart, Paul Purgas, and Matilda) are active with their own production work and other events from mega festival BLOC to other quality underground parties like World Unknown and Beyond the Clouds.

How’s it going?

To be honest with you, not so good, I’m in bed with flu. The rest of the Body Hammer organisation are in rude health though.

Can you please tell us a bit about the mix?

It’s the sort of stuff you can expect to hear at our night: plenty of songs, acid tracks and Chicago house. We’re all heavily influenced by old WBMX mix tapes and this comes across in the sets we play at Body Hammer. This one’s a bit rough round the edges but that’s what you get, we only play vinyl at our nights

What are your plans for the next few months?

We going to try and do the parties more regularly, which will probably involve rotating between a few different venues. The next party is likely to be late Feb 2011

Favourite Body Hammer memories?

1)When the speakers overheated and the music stopped, we had to gaffer tape desktop fans on to them – worked a treat.
2)Our mate Milton 500 un-ironically screaming ‘acid’ when Laurent X Machines came on.

What do you think are the most important qualities in a really good party/club night?

A small enough venue to have some atmosphere.
Something that has a bit of a following, where you’ll see a lot of the same faces each time.
Somewhere that involves a bit of an effort to find out about and get to.
Good records.

Body Hammer’s next party is in late February so please email office.bodyhammer@gmail.com to get on the mailing list
