Dummy Mix 448 // AZ
A recent resident of Deptford, artist Aisha Zoe takes a walk with me to capture some of the idiosyncratic personalities of the area. With some pieces with regular collaborators Dukes Cupboard (located on Berwick Street in Soho, every Thursday and Friday), AZ looked like a Chola as we hit the streets. Along the high street, we discussed the connection between the ever-developing music scene and how the authentic area has influenced her. To accompany our chat, we wanted to shoot photos of the people in this humble place. It wasn’t long before we found our first subjects sitting, drifting, and wondering in the square outside the library and Aisha Zoe’s endearing manner meant we never went without the shot we wanted.
Listen to AZ's mix below, and read an interview with the DJ, producer and vocalist after the jump.
Hey Aisha Zoe, how's summer been treating you so far?
AZ: "Summer has been hectic emotionally, physically and mentally – filled with love, music, and sweat."
Tell us a little bit more about this mix, was it recorded with any particular mood or way to enjoy in mind?
AZ: "It encapsulates my Brazilian treehouse bedroom, and all of the flavours of the past few months within it."
Any personal favourites or exclusives nestled in there?
AZ: "I flipped Al Dobson and Erykah Badu in there. I’m gonna put that out with a couple more remixes of mine later in the year."
If money were no object, what would you wear to one of P Diddy's white parties?
AZ: "This glorious Gizelle Gomez beaded dress i’ve had my eye on. They're all beaded and handmade, just beautiful."
If you could go back in time to any musical era, when would you choose and who would you hang out with?
AZ: "Without a doubt Josephine Baker, Gene Kelly, and Cab Calloway."
Any shout outs, or teasers of what is to come from you?
AZ: "Shout outs to S4U, a project coming through in September, so keep your eyes and ears peeled. Also I'll be DJing for Cohalas House on the 12th, come through! Crazy Cousinz are playing too, who I’ve loved since I was 12. Sometimes I wake up early in the morning to play my conconconga! Woohoopipip!"
