London-based five-piece The Mules started out as a country band who changed direction because, as singing drummer Ed explains, 'we weren’t really good enough to play proper country music.' Opinion on Good Shoes has been bafflingly divided, particularly for the music critic who finds their lo-fi take on post punk indie refreshingly appealing. For every devoted blogger clawing themselves giddy over the south London quartet, there are a smaller, but no less vitriolic, number of voices adamant that Good Shoes aren’t worth the hype. Marit Posch was doing PR for Ellen Allien's label Bpitch Control when her boss heard a few of her demos - and straight away she was whisked off to the studio to become Damero. On her debut album Happy In Grey, production by a range Bpitch buddies (including Marit herself and Ellen Allien-collaborator Apparat) provide a buzzing, misty framework for Marit's classically-trained vocals: pre-technological ballads over post-technological beats.

I started in 2004. Before that I was more focused on classical music - I'm actually a classical singer.
